Know someone that is,  or was missing? How did you feel, how did you react, what did you do? How would you feel? What would you do? So many questions, but the one that never seems to change is, did you expect it? Of course NOT!! So many times a loved one goes missing and days, nights, hours, weeks, sometimes months are spent just wondering what to do, where to look, and when will he/she return. When someone suddenly goes missing families, and friends are left confused, scared, worried, and often feel helpless.

PSBF would like to shed some light on this growing epidemic. We are proud to announce our 1st Annual Missing You Conference 2012!!! This event is FREE!! We would be honored if you would join us for an afternoon filled with useful information safety tips, advice, and helpful resources!!!

PSBF Halloween Safety Tips

It’s October 12, 2012 and Halloween is quickly approaching! Our children look forward to this day every year and why wouldn’t they? They get to dress up in creative colorful costumes and go door to door screaming TRICK OR TREAT!!! waiting to fill their Halloween bags with candy and other Halloween favorites! While we want our children to enjoy the Treats that this U.S holiday brings there are a few Tricks that we need to look out for. PSB News Vol. X-Update

We are very very proud to announce that The Phylicia Simone Barnes Foundation, Inc., is officially a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization!! We were awarded our status on July 25th, 2012 just 5 weeks after submission of our application to the IRS! We are estatic! This news brings us closer and closer to accomplishing our goals and fullfiling our mission.

Phylicia’s life, spirit and story, has touched so many people since December 28th 2010. The PSB Foundation was established in August 2011 in honor of Phylicia Simone Barnes to carry on her memory and her ability to change lives. Through losing Phylicia so many people have come together, family, friends and even those who did not know Phylicia personally to raise awareness and push for change, not only for Phylicia but for all missing persons.

Our mission is to raise awareness of cases of missing children and to help those children and others to succeed in life, leading paths of excellence, happiness and fulfillment.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us to accomplish this goal. Thank you to the fundraiser participants, whether your were a customer or a salesperson, or an organizer we thank you! To our board members, staff and volunteers, all of your hard work was a huge role in receiving this achievement. We could not have accomplished this goal without the help and support from all of you.

A “Game of Life” Resource Fair

We have been invited to a “Game of Life” Youth Resource Fair on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at The League for People with Disabilities 1111 E Cold Spring Ln. Baltimore, MD 21239. Volunteers are an important part of the growth and the mission of The Phylicia Simone Barnes Foundation. The dedication and contributions of our volunteers add to our success. At this time all open positions posted below are voluntary.  If there is a position posted below that you are interested in but you feel that you may not meet all of the qualifications we encourage you to apply. Training can be provided for many of the open positions!

Students who wish to obtain service learning hours may apply!

Volunteer (General):

Position Description: We are seeking individuals to volunteer for special events, and tasks.

Position Requirements: Candidate must posses strong organizational skills and planning skills. Must be proficient in basic computer applications such as  Microsoft Word and internet usage.  Must have access to a computer with an internet connection and an email account. Volunteers will participate in planning, preparation and execution of events and tasks.

Board Member (General):

Position Description: Board members will attend all board and committee meetings and functions, such as special events. Members will serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.

Position Requirements: Candidate must posses strong organizational skills and planning skills. Must be proficient in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and internet usage.  Must have access to a computer with an internet connection and an email account. Board member must posses the ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with people individually and in a group. Must be willing to prepare for and attend board and committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility, follow through on a given assignment,  and open doors of the community. High School Diploma/GED required.

The Human Resources Director guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the entire organization. The Human Resources Director coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff; reports to the CEO and serves on the executive management team; and assists and advises company managers about Human Resources issues.

Requirements: Candidate must posses strong organizational and planning skills. Must be proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage. Must have strong record keeping skills. Human resources experience or similar supervisory background required. High School Diploma/ GED required.

Grant Writer:
Position Description: The Grant Writer is responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects. Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources. Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants. Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs. Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors. Provide stewardship to current donors, including providing regular written updates (newsletters etc) to corporate and foundation donors. Candidate must have an understanding of institutional history and programs. Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting. Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc). Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years experience with grant writing.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.

We are happy to announce that we will be hosting a PSB Foundation Spirit Night at CiCi’s Pizza on Thursday June 14th from 5-9pm! The address is 6473 Baltimore National Pike. Baltimore, MD. 21228.  CiCi’s Pizza is an all you can eat buffet style, family restaurant. The menu includes a variety of all you can eat pizza, salad, pasta, dessert and unlimited drink refills! CiCi’s Pizza will donate 10% of the night’s proceeds to PSB Foundation in order to help us to accomplish our goals! Be sure tell them that you are supporting PSB Foundation!!

PSB News Vol.VI Chick-Fil-A Days!

Great news! We will be holding fundraisers at several Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Baltimore and surrounding areas in the month of May!! Funds raised will go towards our goal of helping other families with missing children. We are also raising funds in order to create a scholarship fund in honor of Phylicia.

In order to participate in the fundraiser you can stop by your local Chick-Fil-A on the designated time and date and present your Chick-Fil-A PSB Spirit Card. You can obtain a Chick-Fil A PSB Spirit Card from a PSB representative, or you can print one out here for use at the location you would like to go to. Make your purchase on the PSB date and 20% of the sale from your order will be donated to PSB Foundation! Share or print cards for your family and friends too!
